Part 4: Interview with Ravers and Track Playlist

Interview with friends of friends who currently attend most raves. Their ages are 21 and 22.

When did you start getting involved within the Rave scene? And why?

Friend 1: When i was 17, I attended my first rave. I liked going to places where the music i could really feel and get into the mood to dance to. My friends had told me about raves they had attended and danced till sunrise so they took me to my first one. I also loved wearing comfy clothing on nights out and not making much effort so the rave scene seemed fitting for me.

Friend 2: When i was 16, i attended my first rave. It was something my friends around me and at the time, older than me, were all into. So it seemed normal and right for me to join in. My first night out on the rave scene brought me and my friends closer together... We had to stick together as their were tonnes of people.. and on drugs.

How often do you go to raves?

Friend 1: Every other week

Friend 2: Twice a week

What artists do you like?

Friend 1: Macky Gee

Friend 2: The Streets

How can you describe the Rave scene?

Friend 1: Colourful, friendly, crazy. It is full of individuals who like to party all night long till the sunrise. Everyone wears comfy but vibrant clothes to party in all night. It is a great way to meet new people and socialise with people who not only share the same interests but experiences. They tell you about other raves to go to.

Friend 2: Dirty, fun, freaky.

Is there a particular way of dress you stick to on a night out?/ What are your inspirations?

Friend 1: I wear mainly tracksuit and loungewear clothing to raves. I like to layer my clothing, as usually its freezing out.

Friend 2: I like wearing bright colours, and i usually have a lot of skin on show.

Why do you think people turn their nose up at rave at the rave scene?

Friend 1: Because we dress out of the ordinary. We essentially go to a party in our home, lounging clothes. Also many ravers show a lot of skin, lots wear crop tops.

Friend 2: Because a lot of drugs are involved.

Do you think the Rave scene and EDM have become too popular? Why or why not?

Friend 1: I would say that more different groups of people now attend raves. I wouldn't suggest it is just one subculture of people who attend them.

Friend 2: Many raves are overcrowded these days and therefore get shut down if there is to many people= more noise.

Do you think things have changed within the Rave scene? Like how?

Friend 1: Yes, 90's ravers used to wear more vibrant colours and accessorised outfits. But now a 2017 raver would wear a comfy for example adidas pinstripe tracksuit.

Friend 2: I feel like the music at raves has broadened and many EDM and Rave music are used in the backdrop of songs and played in nightclubs.

Group Mood Boards

My 3 A3 Mood Boards

A1 GROUP MOOD BOARD COLLAB

COLOUR       BOLD      JEWELLERY     GOLD    CHAINS   HATS   VIBRANCY    CLASHING

From visually looking at all of our groups subculture mood boards, we decided that our theme in common from our muses was clashing vibrant prints. All our muses wore vibrant clashing and psychedelic prints and bold accessories such as gold necklaces and rings.

So we decided to bring in what we had.. including accessories.. and we began styling each other....

When styling i wanted to think of unique ways of putting together a look. These included mixing/ clashing prints on shirts and using accessories and jewellery in unique expressive ways.

I took on the role of stylist and choosing a location- Garages and Camden Town for our actual group shoot. These were our potential looks...

We decided to use Camden as a base for our photoshoot as the shops there are very oriental and colourful. Many shops sell big fabric wall prints of elephants and geometrical shapes, which worked well as a backdrop for our theme.

Our models had amazing features, specifically their hair. So we decided to work on these features, by placing accessories and and through them in unique ways. We did not just focus on the garments, but the whole look.
